The Dutch Taxonomy Project

Document Actions

As of the first of January 2007, businesses and intermediaries can report their financial data to the government using the Dutch XBRL taxonomy. Efficient exchange of information on a large scale is possible with the Chamber of commerce, the Tax department and Statistics Netherlands, using XBRL.

With this the preconditions are in place for the effective and efficient reporting of financial data to the government. More than eighty companies and government organisations have come to an agreement about the use and governance of the Dutch taxonomy and the Processinfrastructure in a covenant. Together with the covenant parties, the Dutch Taxonomy Project is helping these parties join, in order for them and their clients to fully benefit from the advantages of the Dutch taxonomy. A part of these parties is already XBRL enabled. Other parties can still join.

Background

The Dutch government intends to reduce the administrative burden of businesses with 25 percent. One of the projects to realise this reduction is a joint effort of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice to use eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). This Dutch Taxonomy Project will moderate en facilitate developments in certain financial reporting chains. Within the Dutch Taxonomy Project the Dutch Taxonomy will be drafted through several sub-projects, executed by stakeholders, to enable the drafting and provision of tax declarations, annual reports and economic statistics.
